Updated in 2026.7 Knowledge Connectors integrate external services to import content directly into your Flows. This feature provides greater flexibility and control compared to other methods of uploading knowledge, such as uploading multiple PDFs or connecting to a single web page. You can schedule synchronizations to automatically import knowledge, or manually trigger knowledge imports. Knowledge Connectors are developed and delivered as part of Extension packages.

Working with Knowledge Connectors

Install a Knowledge Connector

Select how you want to install a Knowledge Connector:

Install a prebuilt Extension that includes a Knowledge Connector from the Marketplace. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Go to Manage > Extensions.
  2. In the Marketplace section, select an Extension that includes a Knowledge Connector, for example, the Confluence Extension 6.0.0 or Diffbot Extension 2.0.0, and click Install.

Clone the Extensions repository and modify the Knowledge Connector of an Extension, for example, the Confluence or Diffbot Extension. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Clone the Cognigy Extensions repository from GitHub to your local machine and open it in your code editor.
  2. Go to the extensions/confluence or extensions/diffbot folder. Modify the code as needed. Run npm install to install all required dependencies for the Extension.
  3. Run npx tsc to compile the TypeScript code. This command converts TypeScript files into JavaScript in the build folder. If the build process doesn’t create a tar.gz package automatically, create one manually:
tar -czvf extension-name.tar.gz build/* icon.png README.md package.json package-lock.json
    ```
4. Go to **Manage > Extensions** in Cognigy.AI and click **\+ Upload Extension**.
5. Select the created package and click **Open**. The installation of the Extension begins.
Create a custom Knowledge Connector from scratch. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Add the [createKnowledgeConnector()](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@cognigy/extension-tools#knowledge-import) and [upsertKnowledgeConnector()](https://www.npmjs.com/package/@cognigy/extension-tools#knowledge-import) functions to your custom Extension. Use the [Extension template](https://github.com/Cognigy/Extensions/tree/master/docs/example) for structural reference and the [Knowledge Connector example](https://github.com/Cognigy/Extensions/tree/master/docs/example/src/knowledge-connectors). Run `npm install` to install all required dependencies for the Extension.
2. Run `npx tsc` to compile the TypeScript code. This command converts TypeScript files into JavaScript in the build folder. If the build process doesn’t create a tar.gz package automatically, create one manually:
tar -czvf extension-name.tar.gz build/* icon.png README.md package.json package-lock.json ```
  1. Go to Manage > Extensions in Cognigy.AI and click + Upload Extension.
  2. Select the created package and click Open. The installation of the Extension begins.
Set up the Knowledge Connector
  1. After the installation, go to Build > Knowledge and select the Knowledge Store to which you want to import knowledge.
  2. On the Knowledge Sources page, click + Add Knowledge.
  3. In the Add Knowledge window, select a Knowledge Connector from the Type list and fill in the required fields for the connection.
  4. (Optional) In the Schedule Sync section, select one or more weekdays and set the sync time to schedule automatic knowledge synchronization. Click Save and Sync.
Wait for the Knowledge Connector to ingest the knowledge from the external source and make it available for your AI Agents. Then, the results are displayed on the following tabs:
Scheduled Synchronizations
When you set up a schedule, you select the weekdays and the time of day for automatic knowledge synchronization (sync). The sync time is displayed in the time zone configured in your Project settings.If you configure sync, any changes to the external source, including adding and deleting files, are imported into Cognigy.AI on the scheduled day and at the scheduled time.
Imports might be delayed depending on system resources.
Changes made directly to Knowledge Sources and Knowledge Chunks in Cognigy.AI aren’t exported to the external source. Instead, the Knowledge Connector overwrites these changes, including the metadata, during synchronization. Edit and update files in the external source to keep your knowledge up to date.
Use Ingested Knowledge in your Flow
You can now use the ingested knowledge in your Flow in the following ways:
In the Node Editor, select the Knowledge Store for which you set up the Knowledge Connector. Then, test your Flow in the Interaction Panel to see how the AI Agent uses the ingested knowledge to answer user queries.
