# On the Phone with an AI: Using GPT-3 to power a Voice Bot

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". This is the third of Clark's laws, [a list of three adages](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clarke%27s_three_laws) formulated by British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clark. Indeed: For thousands of years, the idea of inanimate objects understanding and responding intelligently using spoken language could only be imagined in fairytales or sci-fi.

Today, conversing with objects has become commonplace. We're surrounded by embedded voice assistants who obey our every command and engage in more or less intelligent conversations. Arguably coming generations will perceive any non-conversational UI as broken. Think of that famous scene from Star Trek IV where Scotty tries to talk into the computer mouse from 1986. That will soon be us!
